How one bold question leads to exciting new prospects for Sraar van Rens. After the businessman from the Dutch city of Venlo was approached by motorcycle racer Koen Zeelen in 2014, Van Rens took the plunge and became Zeelen’s personal sponsor. It wasn’t until later that Van Rens owner of FotoVideoRetail; a wholesale company specialized in video and photography equipment took the shot to help expose his own brand of Benro to the world. As a new player in the fast-moving world of motorcycle racing, Van Rens was hooked, and in 2016 he decided to start the Benro Racing team. Koen Zeelen turned out great results in their first season in the strongly contested IDM (Internationalen Deutschen Motorradmeisterschaft). Season one saw the team take eigth place in the Stock 1000 Class.
With the Stock class scrapped internationally for 2018, the team moved into Supersport racing. A move that payed dividends, with two third place finishes for Vasco van der Valk in only their first season in the new class.
It wasn’t until the second season when Benro Racing really started showing its prowess. Australian talent Tom Toparis did not just manage to get the team their first win, but a tally of five podium finishes over the season as well. Considering the nineteen year old had to sit out a few races in IDM, an overall fifth place in the championship was quite the achievement.
"If I hadn’t picked up the gauntlet of sponsoring Koen Zeelen, I would not have experienced the sheer excitement that comes with motorsports. The speed, the suspense, and the teamwork... The dynamics of a racing team on race week, is something very special. It’s not a feeling you can really explain; it’s something you have to experience. Obviously there’s also great satisfaction in seeing Benro Racing make strides in competitive championships. Our goal is to bring experienced team members together with racing talent, further augmenting both."
